The Special Olympics PA “Generation Unified” virtual enrichment program will engage participants in weekly activities that promote

the core themes of Special Olympics, inclusion, and health and wellness, while supporting social and emotional learning. Utilizing the Unified Classroom curriculum and content that is accessible, relevant and engaging, qualified instructors will facilitate community building sessions where participants can participate in comfortable dialogue, and grow as individuals, while also working on social skills and leadership development.

About the Course:

Utilizing Special Olympics North America’s Unified Champion Schools Unified Classroom curriculum and content that is accessible, relevant and engaging, qualified instructors from Temple University will facilitate community building sessions where participants can participate in comfortable dialogue, and grow as individuals, while also working on social skills and leadership development. Participants will gain an increased sense of belonging, improve communication skills and social skills, and increase their confidence and proficiency with goal-setting. Special Olympics PA is proud to partner with the Satell Institute and other regional nonprofit educational institutions to present Generation Unified – an incredible learning opportunity for grades 9-12, where students will participate in weekly activities that promote the core themes of Special Olympics: health, wellness, leadership and inclusion!

About Special Olympics PA:

The mission of Special Olympics PA is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® is a strategy for schools Pre-K through university that intentionally promotes meaningful social inclusion by bringing together young people with and without intellectual disabilities (ID) to lead in the creation of accepting school environments, utilizing three interconnected components: Special Olympics Unified Sports®, inclusive youth leadership, and whole-school engagement. Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools is generously supported by the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education.

The Generation Unified program is facilitated by graduate students in Temple University’s Occupational Therapy program under the supervision of Special Olympics PA staff.
